How to watch Sky Go TV in Thailand with a VPN
Finally, there is an easy solution for watching Sky Go's online TV streaming service whilst living or travelling in Thailand in 2015.
Recently we were travelling in Thailand and staying with relatives for extended periods and got a lot of use from the service. Whilst in China for 6 months, we used to try watching our favourite TV programmes on Sky Go, but without much luck. The broadband in China just wasn't workable for streaming even standard quality Sky Go content. When we got to Thailand though, that all changed with their faster broadband speeds.
The easiest way of watching Sky Go in Thailand:
Simply find a decent VPN that offers 256bit OpenVPN encryption, and has a server based in the United Kingdom. If you don't know much about VPN's, explained simply, they make your internet connection secure, anonymize your browsing habits and mean you can access blocked / restricted content from other countries. Luckily now-a-days, you don't need any more knowledge than that, as you can install software in a few easy steps to get access to one.
For us, that meant using our VyprVPN account from Goldenfrog. We were travelling for 12 months overall through countries such as China, Vietnam and Myanmar, so had to buy a VPN to ensure we could access all the content from back in the UK. Such as Facebook, YouTube, The Guardian, BBC.co.uk and of course Sky Go.
Also, because we were doing a lot of online banking whilst on the road, we wanted to ensure everything we did was secure. Especially when connecting to unsecured WiFi networks in cafe's and bars.
4 easy steps to get Sky Go working in Thailand
(Be up and running in under 10 minutes)
STEP 1: Choose an appropriate VPN service provider (Get a premium one, as free ones don't work consistently)
We are using VyprVPN because it's the only VPN in the world that works consistently in every single country without being blocked. VPN's shouldn't cost a lot of money and VyprVPN only works out to be just £3 for your first month ($5) then £6 ($10) per month thereafter (you can cancel at any time and there's a 3 day free trial, with no obligation).
- Click here to go to the VyprVPN product page and select your plan (Basic will work fine, but if you want more devices to connect then choose Pro instead.
- Type in your details in the boxes provided, create a username and password, then continue to the payment page and pay for your selected service. It's billed monthly so you can cancel at any time.
- Once processed, you will have an account immediately available. And remember your username and password (username is always your email address).
STEP 2: Download the VPN software and install on your PC / Mac, iPhone or Tablet.
VyprVPN have software available for both PC & Mac, along with all iOS devices (iPhone & iPad) and Android phones and tablets.
- You can download the software here.
- If you have a iPhone or iPad, go to the App Store on your device, and search for ‘VyprVPN' and click install.
STEP 3: Login with your username and password
Now, remember your username and password you created earlier (email address is your username). Open the VyprVPN software up on your PC or Mac and it will prompt you for your login details, enter them, then choose which country you wish to connect to. In our case, it's ‘United Kingdom' which will allow you access to Sky Go TV, once selected, click ‘Connect'.
If you are installing the App on your iPhone or iPad (or Android device), then enter your login details when you open the App for the first time. Once you click ‘Connect', you will be automatically connected and everything you now do online is anonymous, untracked and best of all you can access content that normally is blocked in Thailand. Just make sure you connect to the United Kingdom!!
STEP 4: Login to your Sky Go TV account
- Access the Sky Go website here > http://go.sky.com/vod/page/default/home.do
- Click ‘Login' and enter your details.
- Voila! You are now able to watch Sky Go TV in Thailand.
